Arrival Days brings excited new students
As usual Uppsala university arranged the welcome center in the Segerstedt building to greet and provide information to the new international students, starting their studies at Uppsala university this autumn.
Sofia, from the United States, Basil from Greece and Anna, from Australia just arrived from their different destinations to Uppsala. As new arrivals in Sweden they found each other's company during the first experiences, from Arlanda airport to Uppsala and their new university.
Sofia and Anna are two of the students gathering information about their new university and Uppsala at the welcome center.
Sofia will be studying her masters in ecology and is looking forward to explore some hiking, outdoor activities and surprisingly, owls.
–Yeah it´s a bit random, but I´m hoping to be able to see some owls and take pictures of them, she says laughing.
She is happy for the opportunity to study abroad, have some experience and meet new people outside of the US.
Basil will also be staying for two years in Uppsala, studying archaeology.
– I'm particularly interested in the specialized courses on the baltic area, which is a big reason why I picked Uppsala University. So I´m really going to take this opportunity and delve into my studies, she says.
Anna, who arrived all the way from Australia is looking forward to meet new people.
– I'm also looking forward to experiencing the student life and the nations here in Uppsala, which is something we don’t have in the same way back home, she says.
She will be studying a master's in humanitarian action and conflict during two semesters at Uppsala University.
Rizuki and Kai are happy to be in Uppsala. They’re hoping to experience a lot during the next two semesters here.
Two of the students who just took part of the information session and got their goodie-bag from Uppsala university are Kai and Rizuki, both from Japan. Kai will be studying business and Rizuki will be studying environmental economics.
– I think Sweden is a very interesting country, and I love skiing so that’s definitely something I will do during the winter, says Kai.
They are both looking forward to their studies a lot, and agree that they choose Uppsala university because it's a big and diverse university with a lot of history.
– I’m happy to get the chance to get to know Uppsala and see all the historical places here, like the old buildings. Also the student life here and the nations as it’s something i’ve heard a lot about, says Rizuki.
