Many new students at the Arrival days
Many students have found their way to the Segersted's building during the Arrival days.
Rafaela Ioschpe is one of the newly arrived students who is looking forward to the autumn semester in Uppsala. She’s from Brazil and is going to study courses in Basic Swedish, Global sustainable development, The craft of public speaking and Introduction to American politics.
– I’m looking forward to a great time where I can experience new things and learn a lot, she says.
Awa Manneh is from Gambia and is going to study a masters in Investment treaty arbitration at Uppsala university.
– I'm looking forward to a successful academic journey, to make friends and also to experience the different cultures in Sweden, she says.
The twin sisters Elviira and Iita Vilén from Finland are also here to gather information about their new hometown and university for the next semester. They will mainly study Swedish, and already had the chance to practice speaking Swedish a bit.
What are you looking forward to?
– Everything really, Elviira says.
– Speaking Swedish and some events as well, Iita adds.
They agree they will probably miss their family in Finland, but also think that Sweden and Finland are quite the same in many ways, so culture differences will not be a problem.
Hanging out with Elviira and Iita is Gabriel Stettler at the welcome centre in the Segerstedts building today, who will stay in the same student corridor as them.
Gabriel is from Switzerland and is studying biology. He is also looking forward to speaking Swedish.
– I’ve been learning Swedish for a while now, and that’s kind of why I came to Sweden.
He is also looking forward to the excursion that is part of his limnology course.
Pavlos Papandreou also just arrived in Uppsala from Greece. He is taking the masters programme in Pharmaceutical modelling.
– I’m looking forward to meeting new people and really starting this new challenge and chapter in my life.
In the two years he will be staying he is sure he will get homesick at times and miss his loved ones back home.
– But it's a nice challenge I think.
